Explore the magical realm of herbal wisdom with this 6-session online course led by renowned herbalists Penny Livingston and Rosemary Gladstar. Embark on a journey through time as we explore the fascinating history of herbal traditions, the art of stewardship and ethical harvesting and discover the skills of designing medicinal herb gardens while mastering the craft of creating potent herbal remedies.

 

In this course participants will discover a wealth of herbal remedies aimed at enhancing immune function, reducing stress and anxiety, herbs for respiratory health and favorite adaptogenic herbs for increased energy, vitality and radiant well being. You'll learn how to prepare and utilize herbal remedies and recipes. We will delve into the profound healing potential of herbs, gaining insight into their medicinal properties. We will explore the rich lineage and history of herbal medicine, uncovering both the ancient and modern wisdom behind these natural remedies. Additionally, you'll learn to design an apothecary garden and to cultivate a diverse range of herbs suited for various climates ensuring a regenerative source of healing in your own garden. Each module will include some of our favorite remedies. Handouts and optional homework will be included to get the most out of the course.

This course will run from September 18 - October 23, 2024, with classes taking place on Wednesdays from 1 - 2:30 pm (PT). Classes will be held via Zoom, and recordings of each class will be available for registrants not able to attend a class here and there.

Rosemary Gladstar

Rosemary Gladstar has been practicing, living, learning, teaching and writing about herbs for over 50 years.  Often referred to as the ‘godmother of American herbalism’.  Rosemary is the author of twelve books including Medicinal Herbs; a Beginners Guide, Herbal Healing for Women, Rosemary Gladstar’s Herbal Recipes for Vibrant Well Being and Herbal Healing for Men.  She is the co-founder and former director of both The International Herb Symposium and The New England Women’s Herbal Conference, the Founding President of United Plant Savers, and the co-founder and original formulator of Traditional Medicinal Tea Company.  She is also the author and inspiration behind the popular home study course, The Science and Art of Herbalism that has inspired and taught many thousands of students over the past four decades. In 2018  Rosemary was awarded an Honorary Doctorate for her life’s work from the National University of Naturopathic Medicine . She recently moved from her home at Sage Mountain ~ an herbal retreat center and botanical sanctuary where she lived for 30 years ~ to a smaller haven where she plans to write more, tend to her new gardens and spend more time with the plants. Penny Livingston MSc

Penny Livingston is internationally recognized as a prominent permaculture teacher, designer, and speaker. She holds a MS in Eco-Social Regeneration and a Diploma in Permaculture Design. Penny is a graduate of the Arven School of Herbal Medicine in Germany with Susanne Fishcer Rizzi. She has organized herbal trainings with the Regenerative Design Institute as well as hands on herbal trainings in Bali, Peru and Costa Rica. She and designed and installed medicinal gardens, makes hydrosols and essential oils through the distillation process which she sells to a local herbal company. Penny makes her own herbal remedies, creams, lotions, tinctures and salves. She has been featured in the following films: Symphony of the Soil by Lily Films and Deborah Koons Garcia, 2012: A Time for Change by Joao Amorim and Daniel Pinchbeck and Permaculture: The Growing Edge by Belili Films and Starhawk.Penny is currently working at a Permaculture Instructor with Ecoversity, an Earth based, online educational organization.
